"you can't just write in a vacuum--you have to know what you're talking about."
dr. bohil's writing method
- Create an outline.
- Create major bullet points.
- First, method of experiment
- Second, results of experiment
- Third, go back and write introduction and conclusion--doing this last helps you to understand the experiment in its entirety!
- Add in more and more details.
- You'll know when you have enough information--you're now ready to write!
"you learn to write by writing a lot."
time management
- Your writing is only as good as the time you can put into it!
- Write a little bit at a time. Set aside fifteen minutes or so, every day, to write.
- Don't optimize as you go along. When you've written something, let it sit for a day before you go back and make changes.
"the first draft isn't writing. that's just getting your idea on the page. writing is going through your work until every word is the right one."
find a mentor
- Writing for Psychology, or any other science, cannot be done alone.
- You must find somebody who already has experience.
- Look at their writing style and incorporate it into your own.
- Get critiqued by other writers--learn from what they have to say!
- Make sure you know enough science to write about it: take classes, get involved!
"you could have a degree in english and be a great writer, but if you don't know any science, you can't write about it."
